Mar 4:37-39 (KJV) And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose…
After having learned how to hold on to your peace and not Fret in any crisis, victory is sure over whatever challenge you’ve been battling, be it on your job, with your health, relationships, business, etc.
Moving on, apart from holding on to your peace and not fretting as discussed in our previous posts Where Your Strength Lies In Crisis and How To Not Fret In Crisis, we need to move a step further and tackle the issue at hand just like the Lord Jesus did when faced with a crisis during His earthly tenure.
When the storm arose, Jesus AROSE too to address the situation.
As you’d notice in our text for today, apart from not fretting when His attention was drawn to the issue, Jesus did not just fold His hands and allow the storm to rage on.
Let’s put it this way: His peace and calmness enabled Him to put the crisis in the right perspective and to tackle it so effectively that afterwards there was GREAT calm in the place of what started out as a GREAT storm!
Therefore, we can say summarily that after ensuring you are so calm and restful that you do not fret or lose a sleep over the issue at hand, (which would earn you a proper perspective for victory), the next thing to do is to go ahead and address the issue.
…peace … enabled Him … to tackle (the crisis) so effectively that afterwards there was GREAT calm in the place of what started out as a GREAT storm!
When His panicky friends wouldn’t allow Him rest, Jesus taught them how to handle every life threatening crisis by showing them an example:
When the storm arose, Jesus AROSE too to address the situation:
… And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mar.4:39 (KJV)
Jesus rose up to the occasion, rebuked the wind and automatically, the lesser force receded, and the storm literally sat down!
Afterwards, He extended His peace to the troubled situation by speaking and commanding PEACE! And to the glory of God, peace was restored, and there was great calm!
Addressing the situation might also involve taking some practical steps…
Do you still see any storm threatening your peace, life, career, home, business, relationship, family, marriage today?
Then it’s not time to fret or panic. Neither is it time to fold your hands and allow the storm to rage on.
Rather, armed with His peace which comes from focusing on His precious promises (and not the crisis at hand), it’s time to rise up to the occasion and to address the situation in the name of Jesus!
It’s time to rebuke every contrary wind, to end the operation of the evil one, and to extend The peace of Jesus in you by putting His words and precious promises in your mouth, and speaking PEACE to every troubled water!
Addressing the situation might also involve taking some practical steps – (not panicking also makes for a pragmatic survey and overview of the situation at hand.)
For instance, you may need to curb your excesses and cut your coat according to your size if dealing with a financial crisis, be more humble and loving if relating to a relationship crisis, or be more responsive and responsible at work , or change jobs altogether if dealing with a career crisis.
As you address the issue spiritually as well as take necessary practical measures, you will indeed see every raging storm literally sit down in surrender to the power of Jesus; and you experience great calm from what started out a great storm to the glory of His name!
Lord Jesus, when the storm of life rages and threatens to rock my boat, in as much as You do help me not to fret, please also help me to not be negligent of the situation while watching the storm rage on…
Rather empower me with the peace which comes from focusing on Your precious promises to rise up to the occasion and to make necessary practical adjustments, so that I might conquer every life’s crisis with Your peace and by Your power just as You did in Your precious Name I ask it. Amen.
