Mat 14:29-30 (KJV) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
In our previous post on Where Your Strength Lies In Crisis, we stated that the first thing to ensure in any crisis situation is to hold on to our peace and NOT fret.
But how feasible is it to not fret or lose ones peace in crisis when the storms of life come threatening to capsize ones health, job, business, finances, relationship, marriage etc., someone may wonder.
Truth is naturally speaking, this is not achievable. Nevertheless, when you put your focus on Jesus and His promises as pertain to the particular storm in question, He will keep you in perfect peace!
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the Lord for ever:
for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:
–(KJV) Isaiah 26:3-4
When the storm raged vehemently in the sea on which Peter walked (from today’s text), Peter did not sink as long as he did not fret. And he did not fret along as His gaze was on Jesus and His word which said, “Come!”. That for him, was something to fix his gaze on. That, for Him was the word for the hour.
However, when he shifted his gaze from Jesus and began taking in the ugly details of the storm, he became fretful and began to sink!
Peter did not sink as long as he did not fret. And he did not fret along as His gaze was on Jesus.
Therefore, the way to stay unruffled in any crisis is to put your focus not on the crisis, but on Jesus and His words and precious promises through it all.
This is not to deny the realities of the crisis, but to choose to judge the outcome by what the word of God promised rather than by the harsh realities.
For example, the way to ensure peace through a career crisis is to search out scriptures and promises which pertain to God bailing you out in similar circumstances, and to keep confessing and meditating on them rather than on the problem.
Whatever I lay my hands upon shall prosper…(Psalms 1:3
I am blessed and highly favoured… For the Lord shall loosen the loins of kings to open before me the two-leaved gates and they shall not be shut… (Isaiah. 45:1)
As you do this in faith, His peace which does not make sense will garrison your heart as His power bears on the crisis to to bail you out!
Lord, I will keep my eyes fixed on YOU and my mind stayed on You. Please keep my heart in perfect peace and as I think of You and hold on to Your precious promises and not my problems, come to my rescue dear Lord and grant that Your invincible power be released to bail me out miraculously- just as You did promise in Your words in Jesus’ name. Amen.
