Prov. 13:20 (MSG) Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.
Related to this post is Day 26: Analyse Your Environment.
People who work amidst high fliers and upwardly mobile people in enabling environments are privileged indeed.
But is that always the case? Let’s face it.
Chances are that some work environments (talking about the entire people-process-tool mix) don’t inspire growth.
The eagle never lost so much time, as when he submitted to learn of the crow.
– William Blake
Talk about places where people are allowed to comprise on standards, environments where the learning curve has crested, places where short cuts are allowed…
Environments where operation is routine and would most likely be automated someday; places where people are adamant to change and would rather fossilize than get innovative…Places where staffs are allowed to gossip away for the better part of the day to mention but a few.
Surely, association with dead men can kill. Besides, you can’t play with turkeys and expect to fly like an eagle.
It was William Blake who said that, “The eagle never lost so much time, as when he submitted to learn of the crow.”
Expecting to grow in that kind of environment is that futile.
… Environments … where people are adamant to change and would rather fossilize than get innovative…
Anyone who wishes to come out excellent in life must surely look beyond the constraints of such an environment for motivation, as he prepares to make the final shift I.e. leave it all behind and move on to a place more conducive for growth.
In the meantime however, he or she must be Self Motivated and must consider various Personal Development options so as not to rot away pending when it takes to move on…
Lord, When my work environment is not conducive for growth, and effecting the desired change is like beating the air, please help me not to lose sight of You the Author and Perfect or of my faith, and the aspirations You painted out for me from the very start.
Please grant me the grace to stay focused and motivated. Create opportunities for me to keep improving on myself so that through it all I grow not worse, but better by the day to the glory of Your name. Amen.
