Rom. 12. 2 (KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…
Jesus literally bubbled with joy as He previewed His second major mission in Jericho.
Never on His earthly tenure had He met such a man as the notorious and much hated publican called Zacchaeus.
Hated for being so mean…
Hated for having exploited many…
And of course,
Very much despised…
Not exactly for being so short; but because he despised himself!
He had seen himself as a grasshopper all his life: and so was he in people’s eyes!
Moreover, because he believed so much that he could never measure up, everyone agreed too!
As people would soon discover however, this man was actually a rare gem indeed!
What Jesus found most fascinating about Zacchaeus was the fact that he would operate a principle which was supposed to be beyond that age in history… Zacchaeus would transcend the scope of his generation by faith!
Actually, Jesus had a lot more for that generation- most of which they weren’t ready to bear for the Comforter was not yet given to teach them all things.
For instance, it would have been easier indeed for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for men of that generation to realize a man could only be transformed by the renewing of his mind.
However, somebody somewhere had caught that revelation already- namely Zacchaeus!
Beyond all this, Zacchaues even further understood that though real change starts from within, it doesn’t end there! He was deeply convinced that a different outcome in life must be preceded by a changed lifestyle!
The same principle reserved for people who would believe on Jesus from the nineteenth century upward.
The theory a man to be named Albert Einstein was to capture, by stating that it would be unfeasible to do keep doing things the same way and yet expect different outcomes or better results.
Zacchaeus however, was already warming up to do something differently, which would make him one of the heroes of the ages in Heaven’s records…
And all this made Jesus even more eager to meet Zacchaeus than he was to meet Him…
Thanks so much for reminding me yet again that no one can despise me without my consent!
Besides, You also taught me that even though change starts from within, it doesn’t end there… a changed life’s outcome must be preceded by a changed lifestyle.
Please take me steps above my generation: transform me by the renewing of my mind!
More importantly Lord, please grant by Your grace that I be bold enough to make the necessary adjustments to my lifestyle, so that every change You ignite in me would translate into visible and profitable life outcomes for me and those around me.
