At The Crossroads Of Life…

Job 29:3 (KJV) When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

Anyone been at the crossroads of life before?

I’ve been there over and over again!

There was this time in my life when I needed to make a certain decision; and it was as though the whole of heaven and earth stood still in anticipation of my choice.

Boy, it wasn’t funny and I felt as though I was under the spotlight!

The problem wasn’t about what steps to take, as I already knew that so well and everything in me wanted to make that move.

The issue was about timing: “Was I not rushing things? Shouldn’t I be a little more patient?” I kept wondering.

And in a very subtle manner, what started out as pure expectation turned into anxiety- one so great that it became hard for me to hear the Lord clearly. The more I strained, the less I heard.

In fact, I heard NOTHING!

So I was left with using His Word as my guide, listening to my heart, and making His peace my umpire.

At a point, I lazily pleaded for the Lord to use circumstances to force a decision on me; or better still, speak to me through an audible voice- if only my hubby could just tell me, “Thus saith the Lord- NOW is that time…”

But your guess is as good as mine… I heard absolutely nothing!

Instead, I had to put to practice the training I had received on discerning His still small voice.

I sought confirmations from the scriptures and kept praying, “Lord, I desire to do your will and to follow your plans for me to the letter…
Please, help me to move at Your pace, and don’t ever let me jump Your gun or beat Your traffic light…”

Today in retrospect, I thank the Lord for helping me to follow through to the point where judging from all means and by every standard available, I could clearly discern His mind.

And the moment I realized and did what I had to do, it was as if a burden lifted off my shoulders; His inexplicable peace flooded my soul!

Just A Call Away…

Every day life is a battle. We face battles of wills, ways, opinions, options and decisions.

We are always in need of directions in life
Always needing to make decisions…
Always searching for answers
Always pressing to know the clues…

"What should I do?",
"Which way should I go?",
"Whom should I marry?",
“What should I eat?",
"Am I to act or not… to tell or not to tell?”

Surely, the list is endless!

In any case, there is always the right answer to each of our questions in the midst of the noise!

However, we face real battles each time we need to know what choice to make, whose opinion to endorse and whom to yield to amidst the countless enticing available options.

We have the world, with its enticements and pressures on one side, fully aided by the prince of this world. The idol called 'me' stands at the centre. And of course, there is the still small voice of the One who loves us the most and wants the best for us on the other side, barely audible to our itching ears!

So how does one locate the right way, hear the right voice and make the right choice in the midst of the noise?

Really, knowing the right solution to the puzzles of our lives is simpler than we think.

It all starts by looking our various options in the face and asking God for the answer- HIS answer amidst our various other options.

It is as simples that! But do note that is not necessarily easy for our human nature.

Jer 33:3 (GW) Call to me, and I will answer you. I will tell you great and mysterious things that you do not know.

The Lord is sure to answer us and guide us into all truth when we call unto Him according to His promise.

Locating The Answers:

Surely, the answer as to what to do, which way to go, what steps to take, what moves to make at the crossroads of life comes to those who would care enough for the sure solution as to ask God for the clues.

After asking however, how do we hear and recognize God’s voice in the midst of the noise? How do we locate His will, opinion, way, preferences amidst many more enticing options?

The first way is by being conversant with the word of God.

Ps.119:105 (AMP) Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

The word of God is the will, ways, voice, character and personality of God; in fact, the word of God is God!

John 1:1(KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The scriptures contain guiding principles on every scenario in life. Moreover, the word gives some specific answers to certain questions regarding what to do, whom to befriend, how to live, and much more under every available circumstance.

2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Surely, the word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our paths!

If while seeking direction in any area of life you could locate what the word of God says about the situation, then you have the answer!

If you possess the ability and cultivate the habit of locating your answers in the word of God, you can never be lost at the crossroads of life.

The Answer Lies Deep Within…

An interesting fact about crossroads of life is that oftentimes, the answer to our predicaments and puzzles- the clue to our riddles lies deep down within our hearts.

Sounds funny, but sometimes, we actually DO KNOW the answer!

On such occasions, we actually do know the right thing to do and the right steps we are supposed to take. 20130124-203235.jpg

But we'd rather not go that way: it seems all soooo haaaaaarrrrrdddd;
We'd rather date that guy because he is rich and loaded-
We'd rather ignore the screaming signs that his values are misplaced and that he is not committed to God in any way… Besides, something deep within says that his love may just not be real…

However, We'd rather close our eyes and turn our backs on the truth, and rather convince ourselves that we don't know …

We'd rather deceive ourselves to the point of confusion and rather
try to manipulate circumstances and persuade people around us- even God, to endorse the way we choose!

But in the midst of our 'acquired'struggles one truth remains: WE DO KNOW THE ANSWERS…but that 'answer' is NOT what we'd rather do!

The right turn is the way we'd rather not go…

In any case, with God, there is only one answer amidst the more enticing and more comfortable options; and that answer is not negotiable!

The Still Small Voice

God relates with our spirits.

Prov.20:27 (KJV The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Even though, we always seek visible and spectacular signs for us to prove the way God endorses, God’s perfect will is to speak to our spirits with a still, small and barely audible voice. He wants to lead us through our conscience…

1 kgs. 19:10-13 (KJV) And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after… an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice… And the Lord was in the still small voice…

Anyone still confused, searching for the answer?

Then try closing out all the noise and search your conscience. Look deep within your heart and tell yourself the truth …

…Listen With Your Heart…
…Inside you’ll find the answer
To take you to the place you need to go
Listen with your heart, listen and your heart will let you know
No matter where you are, the truth is never far
Just listen and your heart will lead you home

You Sure Can’t Miss This One

Col.3:15 (AMP) And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state]

Another distinct way by which God leads and guides His children through the defining moments of life is what is referred to as the Peace Guiding Principle.

This principle is very similar to the ‘inner knowing’ or ‘intuition’ which comes by the still small voice.

It operates by an inner feeling of release or otherwise, uneasiness about any decision we are about to take.

Through this principle, we get a red, amber or green light at every crossroad of life!

For example, there are times in life when all visible evidence offers us a seemingly right option; times when even a blind man could rightly predict the ‘right’ turn to take.

YET deep down inside, everything in us screams otherwise!. And the more we move toward that option the more ill at ease and uncomfortable we get!

Of course, we too often ignored that inner warning sign and rationalize our decision…only to discover later that we missed it all along…

Meanwhile, there are other times when what we feel stongly to be the right decision seems as hard as having to walk barefooted on broken bottles. YET the more we agree with that option, the more relieved we
are in our hearts; and the more we think about opting for the easier option, the more uncomfortable we feel.

Anyone been there before? Sure we all have.

The word of God says that anytime we get to that point, we should allow the peace of God, that inner feeling of tranquility to be the umpire, the judge, the referee, the deciding factor.

Col.3:15 (GNB) The peace that Christ gives is to guide you in the decisions you make

In Summary…

Sure we got the message. Here is a summary:

If after asking God for a clue, searching His words and looking deep within your heart for the answer you still seem lost at the crossroads of life… still uncertain as regards whether to

-take that business risk,
-say ‘yes’ to that guy,
-make that decision or
-commit to that cause…

Then, take a second look deep within and let the peace of God be your guide… It is a very sure signal that we can rely on!

Lord, I desire to do your will and to follow your plans for me to the letter…
Please, help me to move at Your pace, and don’t ever let me jump Your gun or beat Your traffic light. Amen.
